- Research activity
- Practice drawing a map of Cape Cod with Illustrator.
- To save time, skip the scanning and cleanup steps. Start following the directions at the bottom of p. 262 (step 1), using directly the file 'Map.tif' from the 'Chapter 08' folder on your CD. Continue through p. 285 to draw the map. When told to create a lighthouse symbol, use the file from your Chapter 7 practice.
- Save the resulting files on your storage device.
- Show what you did during the next presentation, earning up to 2 points.
- Lab activity
- Draw your own map.
- If the map you brought from home is on paper, use what you know from this and previous practice sessions to scan it (this time, do follow the scanning and cleanup directions in the first part of Chapter 8, as well as reviewing the information on the lab scanners).
- Set up the raster file of the map as a template.
- Trace the template in Illustrator.
- Add your own marker(s) to the map.
- You can reuse the techniques used drawing the lighthouse to create one or more pictures that represent your home, school, workplace, etc. You can also reuse the chess pieces you drew last time (since "a person's home is his/her castle", you could use the rook to show where you live).
- Show the map with marker(s) during the next presentation, and collect up to 5 points more.
- Home activity
- Read all of chapter 08 (pp. 253-297 of the textbook). You could skip reading about the wine bottle project now--we will return to it when we complete another 3D project later in this class.
- Bring to class a simple line drawing of a personal logo design, to be used with the pen tool in the next lab session.
