- Research activity
- Practice Photoshop image layering using the sample files on the textbook CD.
- Follow the directions in pp. 146-171 to work with the KayakAD.tif practice file you started working on in Chapter 04.
- Save the resulting files (KayakAD.tif and KayakCMYK.tif) on your storage device.
- Show what you did during the next presentation, earning up to 2 points.
- Lab activity
- Combine the pictures you brought from home, scanned and selected in the previous lab sessions.
- Create a new document large enough to accommodate your edited images. Save it as a native Photoshop (.PSD) file.
- In each of your edited images, load the saved selections as appropriate.
- Drag selected portions of the two images into the new document.
- Use the knowledge acquired in your research activity to arrange and combine the various elements into an effective composition. Read about design elements and balance (pp. 44-53 of the textbook) to assist you in your decision-making.
- Using the type tool, you may also want to add a title or caption. Or, use the painting tools to add entirely new elements.
- Copy the resulting image (a Photoshop file with multiple layers) on your storage device
- Show the finished composition during the next presentation to demonstrate your design skills and technical proficiency. Collect up to 5 points more.
- Home activity
- Read the rest of chapter 5 (pp. 141-179 of the textbook).
- Bring to the lab next time a black and white image to colorize (and optionally restore). If your compositing project was in black and white, you can continue to use the same file.
