- Class activities
- Present the images from the home assignment.
- Compare the use in classical architecture (Greek/Roman or Asian) and on campus of the following:
- Post-and-beam.
- Arch.
- Vault.
- Dome.
- Computer lab activities
- Move to the computer lab (rm. 1024, 2nd floor).
- Bring your student ID and, if you have them, bring along the CD-ROM from your textbook and headphones.
- Follow the directions on the CD-ROM for the Architecture (Classical) Video Demonstration and self-test.
- Before leaving the computer, make sure to see the instructor to record your self-test results.
- Home activities
- In the textbook, read about the Middle Ages in Europe (pp. 276-285 of Chapter 16) in the Islamic world (Chapter 19), and in the Americas (pp. 366-370 of Chapter 20).
- Bring to class a picture that demonstrates the connection between current Day of the Dead festivities and ancient Mesoamerican art.
- For information and ideas regarding this assignment, see the current show in the campus gallery (ends this week).
- What other influences can you detect, and how do modern works differ from their predecessors?
- For an example related to your other readings, see how 20th century artist M.C. Escher researched and radically transformed the geometric patterns of Islamic art.
